Chickenpox Booster
The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC)
are now recommending a 2nd dose or booster of the Varicella (Chickenpox) vaccine. They are recommending that this 2nd
Varicella be given to children 4 years and up. They also recommend a “catch-up” plan for all children, older than 4
years, who have not received 2 doses of the Varicella vaccine. At PAA, we will be giving the 2nd Varicella routinely
at the 4 year checkup, and we will also be giving it at future checkups for children needing a catch-up dose.
